Last June I was at the Apple Store Opening in Sydney CBD and tried out the Ipod Touch and see how fast it can download the website and I was pretty impressed by the speed and quality of the photos shown.

Definitely it will be a cool way to carry your portfolio around either via web or loading the photos in your ipod touch or iphone.

I had a part 2 of shooting Samuel for his 6th month. I enjoyed every bit of the shoot as Samuel was in a good mood. Noel was running and having fun. Issa and Cyrile were frantically trying to have a wonderful complete family photo by trying to catch Noel.

At the end of the session, Noel and Samuel were knocked out.

Paula's 18th!

My first assignment to shoot a debut in Australia and it was fun! The teens of today really know how to party. Paula's girl friends outnumbered the guys yet everyone was having a good time.

I was touched by the song composed by the dad that he sang before the dancing began. At that point I had nice thoughts about my daughter when she also asked me to sing her a lullaby song before she sleeps.

Thanks to Antonio for giving me the opportunity to capture wonderful moments like these!

1st Holy Communion at OLOR

Our parish, Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral Parish had its 1st Holy Communion for children for 2008. It was a wonderful event that parents made it special for the children who wore great white dresses and for the boys some in long sleeves while some in korean attire. It was a back-to-back even since it was spread out over 3 Masses (8am, 930am and 11am Korean Mass).

Unfortunately flash photography was not allowed during the mass and no photography while receiving communion and we respected the wishes of the celebrating priest. Good thing that for the Korean Mass, the priest was gracious enough to allow us to take some photos from afar.

Took a photo of Samuel sometime March this year and thought I'd give it a timeless look with making it a monochrome and a touch of sepia. Took a different route in cropping it into a square photo.

Michelle gave birth to a baby boy and named him Raedan. Most of the time he was asleep and when he woke up, I guess it was feeding time.

New Nikon Workhorse

One of my favorite lens prior to owning a Nikon is the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L. This gave me beautiful images and helped me appreciate having a fast lens in a demanding world of weddings and events.

Today, this will be my new workhorse lens - a Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lens. I would have opted for the new Nikkor 24-70mm but realized I'd love to have more on the wide side even though it is a DX lens.

Other lenses are the Nikkor 18-200VR for all around/travel/back-up needs and a UWA lens, the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 for creative and landscapes.

Goodbye Canon

Finally, I have seized to own most of my Canon gears to give way to my new Nikon system. I would have loved keeping it since this camera is my first dSLR camera and worked hard to upgrade it from just the kit lens to having an L lens and a 580EX flash.

No regrets. It is all about being able to have the best gears to capture the moment. That is where it matters.

Elmer is a freelance photographer based in Sydney. He is connected with another photographer since mid-2007 to have a feel of the wedding and photography environment in Sydney as compared to the Philippines. After some great thought and excitement, Elmer decided to put pursue his love for photography and bringing it to the next level, thus the birth of Elmer Medalla Photography.

His passion is in portrait photography - Weddings, Family Portraiture, School/Church Events.

Style
Elmer is a believer that a photograph should be both timeless and contemporary. It should be timeless enough to be like modern 'paintings' that will stand the test of time. At the same time be contemporary - it should have the characteristic of the present time (relaxed, casual, photojournalistic approach, full of emotion and love).

He is not afraid to experiment and is not bounded by the rules of photography.

Elmer started his love for photography back in 2001 when he was scouting for a wedding photographer for his wedding and was faced with photographs that showed emotion and love during the special day. He got hooked with the idea and that sparked the love for photography.

In 2005, he took the jump to digital SLR since the technology was at the stage that it can rival the output of film. From then on, he invested time to learn about the craft through practice, photography organizations and online forums. Beyond that, Elmer wanted to learn also the 'traditional' way by enrolling in different courses such as basic and advance photography, basic and location lighting with top commercial and fashion photographer Ken Go. Lastly a wedding seminar with Philippines to wedding photographer, Dino Lara.
